Ashley Judd joined with the Sierra Club to speak out on an issue very close to her heart – the devastation of Appalachia because of mountaintop-removal coal mining. The actress grew up in Eastern Kentucky, where mining companies have been relentlessly lopping the tops off mountains to extract coal. As a result, the mining waste and toxic debris pours down the mountainside, filling valleys, burying streams, and creating mile after mile of barren moonscape.
With a new personal letter, video and this online “take-action,” Ashley Judd is asking the Obama Administration to prevent the issue of new permits to bury streams, and to end mountaintop removal once and for all.Watch The Sierra Club’s video featuring footage of Ashley Judd speaking out against mountaintop removal.
